The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) and the Delaware Sojourn Steering Committee are encouraging the publicto vote on-line for the Delaware River as Pennsylvania’s River of the Year. The voting ends Jan. 3.

Bestowed annually on a Commonwealth river by the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, this honor helps raise awareness about the significance of rivers, their conservation needs, and their recreational and economic impact on watershed communities.

Over 100 nominations were originally submitted for 21 waterways.

Individuals do not have to be from Pennsylvania in order to vote.

“The Delaware River is extremely important to Pennsylvania and the entire Mid-Atlantic region for its unparalleled water resources, robust recreational offerings, and fundamental role in our nation’s history,”

said Carol R. Collier, DRBC executive director and past chair of the Sojourn Steering Committee.

If chosen as the 2011 River of the Year, in addition to planning the 17th Delaware River Sojourn, DRBC and the Delaware Sojourn Steering Committee will work with a variety of other partners throughout the watershed to coordinate a series of events that will promote awareness of, stewardship for, and communities’ connections to the Delaware, as well as celebrate DRBC’s 50th anniversary milestone.

Preservation Delaware was featured in the Wilmington Delaware based The News Journal, with a fantastic write-up about PDI’s new home in the Historic Old Courthouse in Old New Castle, Delaware. Their new home is an iconic landmark, which played a significant historical role in the development of America as a whole. It was here that we first declared freedom from English rule, voting to be an independent entity called “The Delaware State,” on June 15, 1776.

Only four States allow one to set up a trust and be a protected beneficiary as well. Colorado and Missouri have comparable statutes but the general belief is that those statutes do not work. Of the four States, Nevada has the shortest statue of limitations period – that is the time difference between the date the asset is transferred to the trust and the date the asset is protected. In Nevada the length of time is two years or six months after the creditor finds out or should of known whichever is longer. In the other states the equilvalent time period is 4 years.

Asset Protection by State of Nevada: Nevada is rather special in that it does not freely report to any agency including the IRS and the United States Government. Nobody knows who controls a Nevada Corporation as the the shares of the corporation can be treated as bearer stocks meaning that whoever holds it owns it. There is no requirement that Owners and Directors be identified and officers can be one person or a person you appoint. A Nevada Corporation also does not need to be capitalized – you can have a Nevada Corporation with no assets. Asset Protection by State of Delaware is different in that it has one of the few remaining Courts of Chancery in the United States which deals with equity rather than law and as such is known to give coporate entities a lot of leeway in running their own affairs. For this reason Delaware is commonly considered to project a commercially friendly legal system resulting in many public and private companies incorporating in Delaware. Asset Protection by State Delaware is no different than all other state in that no state taxes income earned outside of State although Delaware’s franchise tax within the State is higher than most others. Asset Protection by State of Wyoming Wyoming may be worth considering for a smaller corporation and it has less stringent reporting requirements and while it does report to the IRS that is only if real assets are within the State. There are no State taxes and limited privacy limitations.

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) – Police on Monday arrested a Delaware State University student in connection with a campus shooting that left two students wounded, one of them seriously, the college said.

Loyer Braden, 18, a freshman from East Orange, New Jersey, faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, assault and possession of a firearm during a felony. He was arraigned and is in custody.

Classes were canceled and students were told to remain in their dormitories on Friday and Saturday after the shooting shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday, following an argument in a cafeteria at the college in Dover, Delaware.

One of the victims, 17-year-old Shalita Middleton, remains in serious condition in a nearby hospital. The male victim, Nathaniel Pugh, was listed in stable condition, college authorities said.

“The campus and the community can now breathe easier,” said James Overton, chief of the university police, in a statement after a three-day investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

The college returned to a full schedule on Monday.
