Nikki A. Greene is a PhD Candidate in Art History at the University of Delaware. This fall, she will teach a class on African-American Art. Originally from Newark, New Jersey, she discovered her passion for art in the halls of the Newark Museum. Nikki graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelors degree in Art History. She received her Masters in Art History from the University of Delaware in 2003, completing a study on Romare Bearden’s Projections Photomontages series from the 1960s. She has held several fellowships, including two summers as the Samuel S. Fels Fellow for Public Service and as the Barra Fellow at the Center for American Art of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Beginning this fall, Nikki will continue her connection to the Museum as the Program Coordinator and contributing writer for the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s first book on its African American Collections. Nikki’s dissertation is titled “The Rhythm of Glue, Grease, and Grime: Body and Indexicality in the Works of Romare Bearden, David Hammons, and Renée Stout.” She will receive her doctorate in January 2009.

His and Hers

The play “I Am My Own Wife,” will play thru October 4 at UD’s Roselle Center for the Arts’ Studio Theatre. UD’s Resident Ensemble Players take on this brilliant piece of literature that’s based on playwright Doug Wright’s conversations with German transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. Intensely gifted REP actor Michael Gotch portrays Mahlsdorf in this one-man show. And this one man portays 35 characters. His is an astoundingly solid performance, one that manages to keep audiences transfixed for two solid hours.
